Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has strongly condemned the decision of the government of Pakistan to abolish the two per cent public and private company employment quota for persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), by deleting Section 459 of the Companies Act 2017 through a presidential ordinance in May.
In January 2020, the federal government passed an Islamabad Capital Territory Rights of Persons with Disability Bill 2020, in which the Minister of Human Rights, Shireen Mazari took an active interest and was also commended by the World Health Organisation for being a positive step towards inclusivity.
"The Commission strongly urges the government to reverse its decision on the job quota immediately and focus on providing fairer, better labour protection to PLWDs," said the HRCP statement.

In December 2018, President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi had lent support to the rights for people with disabilities on his Twitter account, where he called for 'promoting empowerment and provision of inclusive opportunities' for the community.

In October 2014, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also held a party activity to show support to the people with disabilities and portray it to the community that their wellbeing is a part of the mandate that the party will come up with. This was viewed as a post-campaigning strategy for gaining social media influence.
