Cynthia Ritchie’s Explicit Talk On TV About Alleged Rape Surprisingly Ignored By PEMRA
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken a number of notices against transmission of explicit content on media channels. However, on Sunday night, Islamabad-based American blogger Cynthia Ritchie during Journalist Muhammad Malik’s show on HUM News, said something considered ‘vulgar’ according to PEMRA rules, but no action has been taken.

In the interview, when Cynthia was telling about the night she was allegedly raped by former interior minister Rehman Malik, she said: I know exactly what he [Rehman Malik] said to me, and I can tell you if you like me to do,” to which Muhammad Malik replied, “Well if it’s not vulgar then we can probably.” Then the US blogger said, “He said: Don’t worry, I shall spill out of you.”

Cynthia further said that when she came to the place – where the incident happened – she was out of her consciousness. “The next thing I know is he was telling me to sit down, to lay back on his bed. And I found that the lower half of my Shalwar Kameez was around my ankles,” she added.

On Sunday, PPP senior leader Rehman Malik sent a Rs500 million defamation notice to Cynthia for levelling ‘fake’ rape allegations. The former interior minister asked for an ‘unqualified public apology’ within 15 days.

The PPP leader, through his lawyer, noted that Rehman Malik met Ritchie in his office in Ministry of Interior in the presence of Azam Swati’s daughter regarding a visa issue. “Any other meeting regarding your visa with [Malik] is out of the question,” the notice read.
