PTM Leader Arif Wazir Dies After Being Injured In South Waziristan Attack
Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader Arif Wazir who was wounded after being attacked by 'unidentified' armed persons in an open fire from a moving vehicle, near his residence in Wana, has succumbed to his injuries. He was shifted to Islamabad for his life threatening injures, but he passed away on Saturday.

The news was confirmed by Wana Station House Officer (SHO) Usman Khan who said that Wazir was strolling outside his residence in Ghwa Khwa near Wana on Friday when armed persons opened fire from a moving vehicle.

He was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Wana, but later shifted to an undisclosed hospital in Islamabad.

Arif Wazir was the first cousin of PTM leader Ali Wazir who has been struggling for the rights of the Pashtun missing persons and state violence against the ethnicity.

Mohsin Dawar, Memeber of National Assembly, also took to Twitter to express his sorrow.

In November 2018, PTM launched a justice movement for Tahir Dawar, a police officer and Pashto poet who was abducted from the capital Islamabad and tortured to death, with his corpse found 18 days after disappearance in the Dur Baba District of Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

PTM, as well as Tahir's family, demanded that Tahir's murder must be investigated through an international commission rather than a Pakistani one because the case involved two countries. PTM again gained international press coverage in February 2019 when the Balochistan Police allegedly extrajudicially murdered one of the leaders of PTM, Arman Loni, in Loralai. Protests followed which led to the detention of more than 20 PTM activists, including Gulalai Ismail and Abdullah Nangyal.
