LHC Fines Doctors Seeking Protective Equipment, Rejects Their Demand
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected the petition filed by doctors in Punjab, demanding provision of protective gear and financial relief from the government.

LHC Chief Justice Mohammad Qasim Khan has permitted the provincial government to take action against the doctors for any laws that they may have violated and for defaming the institution.

Dawn.com reported that the complainants sought protective equipment for all healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus, but the LHC verdict says that none of the five petitioners had been treating coronavirus patients.
The verdict further stated that one of the doctors who petitioned the court in this regard was delegated duties to screen the patients on only one occasion, and he was provided with the safety gear.

The high court also accepted the Punjab government's stance that protective equipment ought to be provided only to those healthcare officials who are dealing with coronavirus patients. The verdict noted that all over the world there was a shortage of personal protective equipment, adding that Punjab government was making various efforts towards containing the virus outbreak and an order against them at this point would be 'unfair'.
