Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho said that after the lockdown in the province, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases have decreased, especially in Karachi.
The Express Tribune quoted the minister as saying, “we have seen a decrease in the number of new infections over the past couple of days – thanks to Karachiites for their cooperation,” she said in a statement two days after the province went into a complete lockdown in an effort to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
She called upon people to stay at home to make the lockdown a success so that the government could stamp out the virus. She said that controlling ‘local transmission’ of the virus in Karachi is a herculean challenge.
“There are 410 COVID-19 cases in Sindh. Fourteen of them have recovered and returned to their families. Most of the recoveries – 10 to be precise – are in Karachi,” Dr Pechuho said. The minister attributed the high rate of recovery to timely diagnosis. She added that the provincial government has been bearing the cost of treatment of all COVID-19 patients since the outbreak.
To date, 992 confirmed coronavirus cases have emerged across the country, with the provincial governments of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirming 410, 296, 110, and 78 cases respectively. Moreover, the government officials have confirmed seven coronavirus deaths in Pakistan.
