Dawn CEO Hameed Haroon Sends Legal Notice To Filmmaker Jami
Dawn CEO Hameed Haroon has sent a legal notice to filmmaker Jamshed Mahmood, popularly known as Jami, calling for an unconditional public apology and asking him to take back the rape allegations.

A news report in Dawn quoted Jami as saying that he had received the notice under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance 2002. Jami has, however, said that an apology was not ‘even a distant possibility’.

Jami told media that there was a lot that needed to be done for the victims of sexual harassment.

In October 2019, Jami had alleged that he had been raped by a media tycoon 13 years back.

On December 28, he had named Dawn CEO Hameed Haroon as his rapist. In response, Hameed Haroon had termed the allegations an attempt to silence Dawn and had announced that he would be initiating legal action.

In his statement, Haroon categorically rejected the rape accusations and while terming the story untrue, said that it had been fabricated at the insistence of those who wished to silence him and force the newspaper to support their repressive narrative.

Jami had responded to Haroon’s statement, saying that he was not backed by the establishment.
