Bilawal Says Legislation On COAS’s Tenure Victory For Parliament's Supremacy
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that legislation on the tenure of the army chief through the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Act 2020, was a victory for those who always battled for parliamentary supremacy and democracy.

In a series of tweets following the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s decision to move ahead with the Act, Bilawal stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had unconditionally agreed to pass the army act in both houses by ignoring parliamentary procedure. The PPP chairman stated that the bill had not even been circulated to all members or sent to house committees for review.

Bilawal expressed his pleasure over the fact that it had now been agreed that the bill would go back to the National Assembly committee and would also be reviewed by the Senate Committee. He added that this was a positive development that the parliament that had been dormant for over a year was ready to legislate.

He further said that the institutions that derived their powers from the parliament had asked us to pass legislation and accepted parliamentary supremacy, adding that these were important victories for those who had always battled for parliamentary supremacy and democracy.
