Friday Prayers Held In Srinagar's Jamia Masjid For First Time In 4 Months

Friday prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar have been held for the first time since August 5, when the Indian government had nullified Article 370 of its constitution.

The 14th century mosque had been shut as situation turned volatile in the occupied valley when India abrogated the article that gave a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a report in Newindianexpress, nearly a thousand people from nearby areas offered the Friday prayers in the mosque. The mosque was opened two days back, and people expressed joy at hearing the Azaan from the mosque for the first time in 134 days.

Social media was rife with pictures and videos of people praying in the mosque. One Indian journalist shared a video of a person inside the mosque saying that the mosque had been opened and people were extremely happy.
