Dr Abdul Qadeer Moves SC Against Restriction On Movement
Pakistani Nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has petitioned the Supreme Court (SC) for the restoration of his fundamental rights.

The scientist, who is under constant surveillance and has his movement severely restricted, had previously also petitioned the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the same issue. The LHC had rejected his petition saying that the security situation does not allow for any such measures.

Khan, through his advocate, argued that he should be allowed the freedom to move and have the dignity that is promised to him according to Article 14 of the constitution. He said the Khan’s freedom to movement cannot be taken away.

The situation is such that the scientist is not even allowed to meet his family and has to take approval from the security agencies to move around the country.,

The scientist has played a major part in the development of Pakistan’s nuclear program. He says that he is proud of the work he has done for his country. He adds that the current situation he is being held in is illegal and should be ended.

The present condition that Khan is in started in 2004 under the regime of ex-president Pervez Musharraf.
