The Foreign Office summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner on Tuesday to lodge a protest against ‘unprovoked ceasefire violations’ by Indian forces along the Line of Control. It has warned that such ceasefire violations may result in ‘a strategic miscalculation’.
The said ceasefire violations occurred on October 6 and 7 and resulted in the loss of life of an elderly woman and injuries to three others. The firing occurred in Chirikot sector along the LoC.
The statement said that Dr Faisal urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate incidents of ceasefire violations, and instruct troops to respect the ceasefire across LoC and the Working Boundary.
The statement added that India should allow the United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
The press release stated that Indian forces engaged in ‘indiscriminate and unprovoked firing’ which led to the death of an elderly lady named Nazira Begum, 69, who was a resident of village Kakuta. Moreover, three civilians, who were all residents of village Kakuta - Manzoor, 43, Jamil, 40, and Mushtaq, 46 - sustained serious injuries.

A press release by the FO stated that Director General (SA & SAARC) Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia and condemned the ceasefire violations by Indian forces.
