Bannu University VC Suspended After His Dancing Video Went Viral
PESHAWAR: Bannu University Science and Technology (BUST) vice chancellor has lost his job after his dancing video went viral on social media.

The BUST Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Professor Sultan Mehmood was suspended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shah Farman on Thursday when his dancing video got viral on social media.

Shah Farman took notice of the video in which the VC can be seen dancing with a girl on an Indian song.

Governor Farman directed a three-member committee to prepare a report over the incident in 10 days.

Meanwhile, another professor from the faculty has been appointed as acting VC until further notice.

The students at the university held a protest demonstration at the campus to demand removal of VC Sultan Mehmood.

On the one hand, government sector universities in KP are facing financial crises, and on the other hand, administrative disorder has become a norm at educational institutions.

The viral video has been criticised by social media users belonging to different walks of life. They also called for the suspension of the VC.

Meanwhile, a teachers’ body at the University of Peshawar has been protesting for several days against the weak administrative affairs of the varsity and ongoing appointment issue with the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The teacher association demanded that HEC should take back its order in which teachers’ appointments were disowned by education commission. The HEC on Thursday issued another order to cancel the effects of an earlier notification.

Student wings of political parties in the university also held a protest on Thursday within university limits against the closure of classes. Student leaders criticised the university administration and teachers association, saying that vital time of students has been wasted on extracurricular activities by the university.

It merits mention here that the administration of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan has also been in the limelight over irregularities.

In Mardan Women University, students were used by the administration to find candidates who could afford to buy jobs at the varsity. In this matter, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar had directed an inquiry without any result.

Sources in Peshawar University told Naya Daur that a large number of girls have accused their teachers of harassment, but this matter has not been taken seriously by HEC.

Sources said that the VC should be a role model instead of allowing harassment to continue with boys and girls in educational institutions.

Peshawar University’s financial crises is getting worse each year and no grant has so far been provided by the provincial government from last couple of years to meet its demands, even when the university has continually increased the facilities for students without compromising the quality of education.
