Former Health Minister Exerts Pressure On Higher Ups To Spare His Illegal Settlement From Demolishing
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior member, and former Health Minister, Aamer Mehmood Kiani has allegedly pressured the high-ups in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to bar them from demolishing his illegal house in Malpur Muree Road area of Islamabad, an official who was part of the operation told Naya Daur on the condition of anonymity.

CDA and ICT’s anti-encroachment drive will continue for 3 days on Mulpur, Muree Road. CDA’s Director of Enforcement and ICT's Assistant Commissioner are leading the operation in collaboration with Islamabad Police. The authority has been able to retrieve possession of around 100 Kanals of state land from illegal occupants.

According to the official press notes of the city managers, 12 houses along with 35 rooms, 12 kitchens and 12 washrooms which were erected on the state land were demolished.

An official who was part of the operation was of the view that the recent operation was across the board. The ultimate goal was to retrieve the state land from the encroachers. All encroachments were demolished but when the machinery approached the house of ex-federal health Minister Aamer Mehmood Kiani we got orders from high-ups to spare this particular encroachment.

“All constructions in the premises are illegally established on the state land, around 13 houses were demolished but Kiani's house was not demolished", the official further added.

A visit to the area confirms that all other adjacent small houses were demolished but Aamer Kiani's house was not even touched by the authorities.

A high official of the ICT, who wished not to be named, told Naya Daur that this operation was conducted on special directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The fact that the illegal house owned by the former minister was spared becomes even more controversial in light of this revelation.

Several attempts were made to contact Aamer Mehmood Kiani but he didn’t respond despite various calls and messages.

When contacted, the official spokesman of CDA Syed Safdar Shah responded that the operation had been conducted indiscriminately and the whole operation was as per the recommendation of the land department.

District Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqat had the same response. He was adamant that the operation was consistent with CDA directives and there was no pressure whatsoever.
