Female Polio Worker Killed In Balochistan

A female polio worker was shot dead and another got injured in an attack on Thursday in Chaman, Balochistan.

According to police, unknown suspects opened fire at the team in a city near the Pak-Afghan border. After the shooting, the suspects managed to escape. Both victims were shifted to nearby District Headquarters Hospital.

The anti-polio campaign in the area has been temporarily suspended and security forces have launched a search operation for the suspects.

There are more than 2.5 million children in Balochistan who were to be vaccinated during the vaccination campaign.

It has been reported that about 10,356 teams have been deployed including 8,829 mobile teams, 951 fixed points along with 576 transit points across the province to guarantee that all children get anti-polio drops.

Earlier this month, a union council polio officer associated with the World Health Organisation was shot dead in Mohmand tribal district. However, this attack comes days after anti-polio panic spread across Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the past, several polio workers in Balochistan and other parts of the country have been killed by terrorists.
