Pakistan's Ambassador to the UK, Mohammad Faisal, has announced that action is being taken against those who attacked former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa's vehicle in London.
The incident occurred outside the Middle Temple, where Isa was attending an event to celebrate his new role as a bencher after finishing his term as chief justice.
Ambassador Faisal described the attack as "extremely unfortunate" and stated that the Pakistani government would address the situation further. The attack happened when a group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters, numbering around 10, tried to stop Isa's car, banging on it and attempting to open the doors. This occurred about three hours after a larger protest organized by PTI's UK chapter, which had about 80 participants, ended peacefully.
The protest was called by PTI members, including Sahibzada Jahangir and Zulfi Bukhari, in response to Isa's appointment to the Bench at the Middle Temple. Notably, the Middle Temple is a prestigious legal institution in the UK where Isa studied law, and his father was also an alumnus.
As Isa's car, which had a diplomatic number plate from the Pakistan High Commission, was leaving the Middle Temple around 10:20 PM, a small group of demonstrators led by Shayan Ali confronted it. They shouted slogans against Isa and attempted to reach him and his wife, Sarina.
In response to the attack, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has promised strict action. He announced plans to cancel the attackers' computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and passports.
The minister instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to identify the individuals involved using footage from the incident and to take legal steps against them. He stated that a first information report (FIR) would be registered in Pakistan as part of the process.
