It is high time that the judiciary should initiate accountability within its organization, as judges are considering themselves ‘holy cows’ in the country.

While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that judges are meeting politicians personally while hearing cases against them, adding that there must be a code of conduct for judges.

Talking about Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s dissenting note regarding amendments to NAB laws, the analyst said that the five-member bench of the apex court will agree with the stance of Justice Shah, and the verdict will declare judges and officers of the armed services accountable under NAB laws.

“Will the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) direct the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference against Justice Sayyed Muhammad Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi if he is found guilty of corrupt practices?” He questioned.

Suharwardy said that Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court is trying to protect former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar. Justice Sattar is of the view that phone calls were recorded illegally, which proves Saqib Nisar’s son sold the party ticket for Rs 1 crore.

The analyst said that Justice Sattar is halting the investigation against the former chief justice, adding that he should lift stay orders and allow accountability for the former top judge.

He said that the judiciary is not even allowing the accountability of former judges.

While responding to a question about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Asad Qaiser and Barrister Saif meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman, Suharwrady said that PTI chief Imran Khan has snubbed the party leaders over their move. That’s why both are issuing clarifications regarding their meeting.

The analyst revealed that caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-Ul-Haq Kakar was looking for the appointment of Faizan Bangash as his principal secretary, but Bangash didn’t get intelligence clearance despite being a federal secretary, whereas Captain (retired) Khurram Agha got intelligence clearance, and he will be soon appointed as the principal secretary of the caretaker prime minister.
