Aurat March, Progressive Students' Collective and Women Democratic Front expressed solidarity with the students of the tribal areas, demanding their scholarships be restored at the earliest. The protestors held placards and posters inscribed with slogans about justice for the students who had come to Punjab for higher education. They say the government had deprived them of their right to education.
Sidra Iqbal, a member of the Progressive Students' Collective, told Naya Daur that by cutting the reserved seats and scholarships for students, the government is trying to exclude the youth of peripheral areas from the education system. "There scholarships must be restored immediately. We plan to hold a Students' Solidarity March on November 27 in Lahore to demand an education package from the government," she added.
The students of BZU Multan belonging to Balochistan and FATA have been protesting for the restoration of scholarships and reserved seats for two months. The government promised the restoration of scholarships of Baloch students last week, but the students of FATA continue their sit in in front of Governor's House as their scholarships remain suspended.
