The protestors were demanding the relevant authorities to re-open the Pak-Afghan Chaman border that was closed due to the coronavirus lockdown. Reportedly, the security forces had opened fired at the protestors killing three people including a woman.
BBC News Urdu quoted the officials of Chaman Hospital as saying that due to the firing, 13 people were severely injured and were transferred to a hospital in Quetta for further treatment.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove held a press conference in Quetta on Thursday in this regard. He said that the protestors who were killed, had entered ‘red-zone’ area to cross to border. “They had also damaged government offices, including a quarantine centre and NADRA office,” he added.
Pashtun rights activists have took to Twitter to condemn the incident demanding a judicial probe to penalise those who created the public unrest.
PPP leader Farhatullah Babar posted a tweet to express his opinion on the matter. He said, “All Pushtuns irrespective of their political affiliations, indeed all patriotic citizens & democrats anywhere, please join hands, raise voice, condemn FC firing in Chaman today. Demand judicial probe & bringing perpetrators to justice.”
