Indian actor-cum-politician Urmila Matondkar has revealed that her husband Mohsin Akhtar Mir has been unable to communicate with his parents in Kashmir for the last 22 days. She also expressed worry over her inability to know if her in-laws had access to medicines.

The actor, who joined the Indian National Congress in March 2019, told media, “The question is not about abrogating Article 370 but the manner in which it was done.”

The actor had tweeted last week saying that Indian government’s attempt to show a ‘rosy picture of normalcy’ was ‘beyond pathetic’.

Urmila further informed media that her in-laws were patients of diabetes and high-blood pressure.

In comments to the Times of India, she said, “My father-in-law and mother-in-law stay there. Both are diabetic, have high blood pressure. Today is the 22nd day, neither me nor my husband have been able to speak to them. We have no clue if they have medicines available at home.”

The actor had also recently tweeted that it was easier to be nationalistic than practice values associated with that nationalism.

Earlier this month, India had revoked article 370 in Kashmir and had then engaged in brutal suppression of the protests originating as a result of the revocation. Following this incident, some Indian actors have voiced concerns regarding Indian action in Kashmir. Actor Ranvir Shorey had expressed criticism over the communication blackout in Kashmir. Moreover, actor Swara Bhasker had in a tweet referred to the situation as 'heartbreaking'.
