Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa faced a large crowd of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters outside London's Middle Temple on Tuesday night.
PTI supporters gathered at Chancery Lane to protest against Isa, who was attending an event at the Middle Temple after relinquishing charge as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The protest, led by Sayed Zulfi Bukhari, a former special assistant to ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, and former National Assembly member Maleeka Bokhari, aimed to condemn the Middle Temple for honoring Isa as a Callee and hosting him at the dinner.
A strong police presence secured the entrance of the venue as many protesters held signs and shouted slogans against Isa. Bukhari spoke to the crowd, repeating PTI’s claims that Isa had targeted their party during his tenure.
British lawyer Barrister Mark McDonald also joined the demonstration, criticizing the Middle Temple for inviting the former chief justice and saying it should not happen again.
The Middle Temple is one of four prestigious legal institutions in London known as the Inns of Court, which train law students and grant licenses for legal practice.
Isa made history by becoming the first Pakistani judge elected as a bencher at the Middle Temple, where he also studied law, following in the footsteps of his father, who was a graduate of the institution.
