Government has decided to make face masks mandatory in public places, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed in a statement.

Addressing a press conference with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Mirza said that even though the government has long been recommending people to wear masks for their own safety while visiting public places, now it will be more important than ever since the lockdown has been eased.

“We will issue a notification in this regard,” he said.

He also opened debate on a drug called ‘remdesivir’, which is going to be tested in Pakistan through Ferozsons Laboratory, for the treatment of coronavirus patients in the country.

"The US company has signed agreements with six companies across the world, of which one of them is from Pakistan. Not only will we be manufacturing the drug for our use, but we will also be exporting it to 127 countries," Mirza said.

A decision to re-open the malls has also been made by the Industries Minister, Hammad Azhar.

He said that the first phase of the lockdown allowed only selling medicines and everyday utilities, the second allowed the construction sector to commence and the third is three weeks later, which is now.

"Today, after consulting with the industries ministers of all provinces, we have decided to open the automobile industry,” he said.

He added that the current season is the peak for wheat harvesting and they will be able to make the most amount of sales, hence the ease in lockdown.
