A man near Ratodero in Larkana killed his HIV positive wife after she did not allow him to marry a second time.

Kareema Rind was strangled by her husband and her body was hanged from a tree in Gharo Rind village in the Dakhan area on Wednesday. The body was later handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.

According to Dawn, Kareema Rind had recently been declared HIV positive after a blood screening in Larkana. The husband, Bahadur Rind, reportedly strangled her with a rope and then hanged her with a tree because she would not permit him to marry a second time.

The police registered an FIR against Bahadur Rind, the husband of the deceased, his brother Darya Khan Rind and relative Johar Rind on the complaint of Akbar Rind, Kareema's brother.

Bahadur was taken into custody while the other two managed to escape to nearby villages. Further investigation is underway.

Police in Larkana in April arrested a doctor accused of spreading human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Rotadero district.

Dr Muzaffar Ghanghar, who works at a public hospital in Larkana is HIV patient himself. He is accused of having infected others in the district.

The authorities probed the matter after HIV-positive cases increased at an alarming rate in the district. 39 cases of HIV were detected in the district, of which 22 were children, including those as young as 16-months-old.

Ghanghar, however, maintains that he was not aware of his condition and was not involved in the spread of the disease. “If I was aware of my condition, I would have sought treatment. The Sindh Healthcare Commission is conspiring against me.”
