Former Indian military commander Lieutenant General (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain lauded Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) saying that the latter has 'taught Indian how to play the information operation'.

According to a story published in Geo News, the retired general was speaking at a seminar held by International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS). During his speech, Hasnain appreciated the ISPR saying that it has done great service for Pakistan.

“I give full marks to Pakistan for the manner in which it has played out the information strategy. The ISPR has done an outstanding work for Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying by Geo. Hasnain added that India had started losing narrative in occupied-Kashmir in the 90s and has failed to restore control.

He said that not many in India know about the ISPR, but the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Hasnain said only the military personnel know about it and that ISPR has taught India a lot about how to strategize spread of information, connect with masses and successfully present a narrative.

“If anyone has taught us how to play information operation it’s the ISPR of Pakistan who have done it marvellously, I would like to give it back to them, always. Credit to them,” the ex-general said, adding that India needs to learn from the Pakistan Army’s information wing.

He said since 2012, Pakistan has had the upper hand in presenting the Kashmir narrative, and India has failed to maintain its own. Hasnain said that with the growth of social media and the new age, Pakistan has evolved to carry information side of things, but the same cannot be said about India.
