Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Security Dr Moeed Yusuf has said that the premier’s advisors with dual nationalities have become the victims of media trial and witch-hunt.

Dr Mooed in his interview to digital news outlet Urdu News, said that it was very ‘unfair’ that a media trial against the special assistants of the prime minister has been started, despite knowing that their appointment was in-accordance with the law.

“Media isn’t a concerned authority to decide the competency of people. Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed us to work with transparency. It is very unfortunate that two special assistants of the prime minister have resigned due to media pressure.”

Talking about his own nationality, Dr Yusuf once again reiterated that he is a Pakistani national and doesn’t acquire citizenship of any other foreign country. “Media can only question as it’s the duty of the courts of Pakistan to initiate trial against any individual,” he added.

On Wednesday, the former special assistant to the prime minister on Digital Pakistan Tania Aidrus and former special assistant to the prime minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza had decided to step down from their posts amid criticism on dual national cabinet members.

These resignations came as a result of criticism by the opposition and civil society for the induction of dual nationals in the cabinet, which Prime Minister Imran Khan had always advocated against.
