Jamiat-e-Ulema-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that a new parliament elected through fresh elections should decide the issue of extension of the chief of army staff’s tenure as the current government did not have the mandate to legislate on the matter.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court had given a six-month extension to Chief Of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, while making it conditional to legislation on the matter in the parliament.

While addressing a rally in Sukkur on Thursday, Maulana Fazl said that they respected the court’s order but this fake parliament did not have the right, nation’s mandate and trust to legislate on the law.

Fazl added that the existing assemblies should be dissolved and snap polls be conducted to comply with the court’s order.

The JUI-F chief further criticised the prime minister for being unaware of the laws of the land and the way a notification should be issued. He added that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had embarrassed the army chief.

Moreover, Maulana Fazl said that opposition parties were united on the fact that the incumbent government lacked legitimacy.
