The opinion pieces/ columns appearing in Pakistan’s print
media during the month of June mainly remained focused on issues politics, international affairs and economic, as
social issues got less space, said Gallup.
It said according to a Monthly Newspaper Content Analysis Research Study, topics related to security,
media, law, health and education received scant attention in the 12 newspapers that were analysed.
Five of these were Urdu – Daily Pakistan, Daily Express, Daily Jang, Daily Khabrain and Nawa-i-Waqt – and the remaining were English –The Express Tribune, Daily Times, Dawn, Pakistan Today, The Pakistan Observer, The Nation, and The News.
Under the category of ‘social’, the topics discussed were related to environmental concerns (especially water crisis and shortage), women and children’s welfare and violence. Transgender and women’s rights were also given some space in this section, however, a greater percentage of the articles focused on environmental development and curbing water shortage.
