Islamabad: A summary has been sent to  Prime Minister Imran Khan to replace Executive Director, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Dr. Raja Amjad Mehmood because of his poor performance and reported corruption, sources at the Ministry of Health told Naya Daur.

The said summary recommends names of renowned Child Specialist Dr. Hashim Bangash, Dr. Professor Tanvir Khaliq and Dr. Anjum Javid.

It is pertinent to mention that PIMS is one the largest hospitals in Pakistan with the capacity of 1400 beds and former health secretary Nargis Sethi had called it the 90 of Islamabad for its internal politics and corruption.

Although the summary has been sent to Prime Minister to replace the incumbent Executive Director. Mehmood is fairly well-connected despite his poor performance and reported corruption, he may retain his position, sources added.

This is what Imran Khan is up against. His intentions are good but even he looks powerless against individuals like Director General Health Dr. Asad Hafeez and Executive Director PIMS Dr. Raja Amjad Mehmood, an official at the health minister who is privy to the summary said.

Dr. Asad Hafeez, who is the main culprit in the infamous Ephedrine case is holding a look-after charge as DG Health for the last 8 years, something unheard of in the history of civil bureaucracy in Pakistan.

According to sources, DG health is against ED PIMS and is lobbying hard to replace him with someone who he can trust like the cronies he has placed in 23 departments operating under the health ministry.

For this purpose, a summary will soon be moved that all the doctors working on deputation shall be sent back to their parent organizations.

Since Dr. Amjad Mehmood is on deputation charge, Mehmood along with 100 of other doctors will be sent back to their parent organizations even if the current summary sent for replacing Dr. Amjad Mehmood as ED PIMS is not approved by the Prime Minister.
