United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the US is ready to prosecute Omar Sheikh, the prime accused in American journalist Daniel Pearl's 2002 murder, in American courts following his acquittal by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The sectary of state said in a statement that he was 'deeply concerned' by the SC verdict acquitting the accused in Daniel Pearl's abduction and murder.

The apex court had on Thursday asked the government to release Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, after rejecting an appeal by the Sindh government against the Sindh High Court (SHC) verdict. The top court ordered his immediate release.

Meanwhile, the SC is also hearing separate petitions challenging the high court’s earlier decision acquitting Sheikh.
In its short order, the three member bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam ordered the accused’s release. The decision was opposed by one of the judges on the bench.
