According to the Sindh health department, samples of 12 people who returned from the UK were taken for genotyping.
Out of these, six were positive for COVID-19, while three had the new variant for the coronavirus in the first phase.
The health department further stated that as per the genotyping, the variant identity is 95% match of the new strain initially found in the UK.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan has been informed of the development by the Sindh government.
