Shibli Faraz’s father Syed Ahmed Shah, better known by his pen name Ahmed Faraz was a great Urdu poet, scriptwriter, and former chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters. It is pertinent to mention that during his career, he severely criticised military dictators and their illegitimate regimes for which he was arrested too. He was awarded Sitar-e-Imtiaz and Halal-e-Imtiaz for his services in Urdu literature. The legendary poet died at the age of 77 on August 25, 2008.

On Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Senator Shibli Faraz as Minister for Information and Broadcasting and replaced Firdous Ashiq Awan with Lt Gen (R) Asim Bajwa as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information with 'immediate effect'.
