Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will land at Lahore airport on October 21, and there is no change in his plan to return to the country.
While talking on a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that Nawaz will reach Lahore on October 21 and will address a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, adding that there is no chance of delay in his return.
He said that Nawaz is even ready to go to jail if bail is not acquired in cases against him. He mentioned that Nawaz has never made a statement in which he gave the impression that he is no longer pursuing a narrative of the accountability of judges and generals.
While responding to a question about the perception that Nawaz gave an extension to then-army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Suharwardy said that it was Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan who gave an extension to Bajwa. The move was later challenged in the Supreme Court, and the apex court gave a timeframe to the parliament to formulate a law as per which an extension could be given to the army chiefs of the country, he added.
“Then a law passed that only prime ministers can give extensions to army chiefs, and Nawaz gave a vote in favor of that law to strengthen democracy and civilian supremacy,” the analyst said.
Suharwardy said that General (retired) Bajwa was looking for an extension for the second time, but then-prime minister Shehbaz Sharif refused to grant him an extension despite serious warnings and threats.
While responding to a query regarding the Faizabad sit-in review case, the analyst said that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed, and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have taken back their pleas in the case, adding that these pleas were filed on the instructions of Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed to protect him. He further said that the development would cause suffering for Faiz.
