While addressing the media on Wednesday evening, the KP police chief said that 'minor incidents' like Peshawar blast may occur, but they shouldn’t. “The threat increased, but the police succeeded in neutralising the threat," Abbasi said.
Meanwhile, social media users were enraged by his statement downplaying the tragic incident. Following Abbasi's statement, #ShameOnYou_IG_KP became a top trend on Twitter within hours.
On Tuesday morning, Jamia Zuberia in Dir colony of Peshawar was targeted in a terrorist attack in which eight people were killed including young students and more than 120 were injured. According to the police, the explosives were brought into the seminary in a bag. After the explosion, IG KPK police confirmed the blast and assured that the police will explore “all the dynamics” of the incident.
Many prominent politicians including the Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League N (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and called for dealing the perpetrators by law.
United Nations’ office in Pakistan also condemned the attack.
The police has not told the media about the progress in investigations. No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack yet.
