A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) official shared an image of members of the Pakistan cricket team offering prayers and wrongly accused cricketers of forcing non-Muslim members of the team to join them.

The BJP official, Priti Gandhi, wrongly identified one person in the picture as Danish Kaneria, and referred to batsman Muhammad Yousaf as Yousaf Youhana. She was implying that a Hindu and Christian member of the team were being forced to offer prayers with the rest.

The photo was shared following statements by former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar who claimed that Danish Kaneria was victimised by the members of the Pakistani cricket team for being a Hindu.

Social media users pointed out to the BJP official how unaware she was. Journalist Umar Farooq pointed out to her that the person she was referring to as Danish Kaneria was Abdul Rauf, the team’s physician, while Yousaf Youhana had converted to Islam by that time.
