The festival is one of the most anticipated cultural events in Washington and mostly showcases films from the alternative cinema of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The cast members of Baaji, a film directed by Saqib Malik, include experienced actress Meera and a newcomer Amna Ilyas. The film would be showcased in the afternoon on September 21 while the colourful event would continue from September 20 till 22.
“We are very fortunate to have Baaji shown at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival on September 21, at noon,” read a post on the film’s official Facebook page. Details of the festival were also included in the post.
Recently, the film won two awards at the Mosaic Film Festival in Canada and is expected to do well at DCSAFF too.
In addition, another Pakistani film Laal Kabootar would also be showcased at the festival for a select audience. The action-crime thriller starring Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar will head to the Singapore South Asian Film Festival before heading out to the United States.
People at the festival would be able to meet and interact with their favourite actors during post-screening discussions and workshops. All films to be showcased at the DCSAFF would also have English subtitles to help foreign audiences understand the context of the films.
