One major indicator of the agrarian effect of the drought can be seen in the most commonly cultivated fruit, the apple. Falls in apple production in various Balochistan districts range from 20 to 40 per cent whereas plums, peaches, grapes, apricots, nuts and various dried fruits which are widely produced, have experienced comparable falls in output – and water scarcity appears to be a prime reason.
