IHC Hears Petition Seeking Lifetime Ban On PTM Leaders’ Media Appearance

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday heard a petition seeking lifetime ban on Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leaders Manzoor Pashteen, Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir from all media platforms e.g. print, electronic and social.

The petitioner said that the PTM leaders were inciting ‘hate speech incitation, abetting, glamourizing or justifying violence, terror’.

The hearing presided Justice Amir Farooq sought replies from Pashteen, Dawar, Wazir, the state of Pakistan through the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Defence, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).



The court also ordered the Ministry of Interior to offer a written response over the matter.

The IHC further directed the interior ministry, PEMRA and PTA to ensure all rules and regulations are implemented and adjourned the hearing till June 3.

The petitioner had asked that appropriate action be taken against the PTM leaders in th interest of the country and for upholding the respect and prestige of the Pakistan Army.

The petition also asked to ban social media accounts of Manzoor Pashteen, Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar and also bar them from appearing on print and electronic media as they were constantly uttering ‘anti-state’ remarks.



Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) workers clashed with security forces in North Waziristan leaving several injured, according to reports on Sunday.

The security forces opened fire at a peaceful PTM rally that included National Assembly members Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, the party’s sources state, adding that both MNAs managed to leave the scene without incurring any injuries.

However, the security forces stated that the PTM workers attacked a check post forcing the forces to arrest them in retaliation.
