In a press release, HRCP also demanded the release of MNA Ali Wazir and any other activists taken into custody. “It also calls for a parliamentary commission to be set up immediately to inquire into the matter and establish the truth,” the pr reads.
On Sunday, the security forces opened fire at a peaceful PTM rally that included National Assembly members Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, sources within the party stated.
"There must be a serious attempt to genuinely address the grievances of the local population, which the PTM has been articulating peacefully for well over a year," the human rights body stated.
The rally on route to join the ongoing protest staged by the locals, was proceeding in a peaceful manner when suddenly it was attacked by the security forces, PTM sources added. However, according to sources within the security forces, ‘the PTM workers attacked a check post forcing the forces to arrest them in retaliation’.
"With the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the state must ensure that the media and civil society have independent access to the former FATA. The country’s mainstream media must also understand its responsibility to report on this region fairly," the HRCP added.
