The Punjab government has put in place a dress code to be followed by officials during office hours and while appearing before the courts, a day after a Supreme Court (SC) judge rebuked Lahore's deputy commissioner for not dressing appropriately.

A guideline issued by the welfare department states that during the office timings and appearing before the courts of law, the officers of the government of Punjab are expected to follow an ‘appropriate’ dress code. The officers were directed to be aware of preserving the demeanor and grace of the officer, which represents dignity and decency in accordance with their professional roles.

Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik was admonished by Justice Mansoor Ahmad Malik of the SC at the Lahore Registry for not dressing up appropriately during his appearance before a three-judge bench.

Justice Malik noted that the court did not want to hurt anyone's feelings, but to remind officers of their duties.
