Ghalib was born in Agra and started writing poetry at the age of 11. His first language was Urdu but he also used to speak Turkish and Persian in his household.
He is considered the greatest Urdu poet of all time. Ghalib also worked with Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II as his tutor and then as a royal historian of the Mughal court.
Today on his 221st birthday, lovers of himself and his poetry are sharing their favourite works of Ghalib and are paying homage of one of sub-continent's literary legends.
