Former DG ISPR Asim Bajwa Appointed Special Assistant To PM, Firdous Ashiq Removed

Former Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt. Gen (r) Asim Bajwa has been appointed as a Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information, a post previously held by Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Shibli Faraz has been appointed as new Information Minister. Asim Bajwa, the new entrant to the cabinet, also heads the China Pakistan Economic Authority (CPEC) Authority.

Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry announced the development on Twitter and said, "both [Shibil Faraz and Asim Bajwa] will make a great team.

Interestingly, the Cabinet Division issued two different notifications announcing Asim Bajwa's appointmenta and Firdous Ashiq Awan's removal. "The prime minister ... has been pleased to appoint Lt Gen (Rtd) Asim Saleem Bajwa as special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting, in [an] honorary capacity, with immediate effect," said the notification.

A second notification stated: "The prime minister has been pleased to remove Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan from the office of special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting, with immediate effect."
