A parliamentary committee formed to investigate alleged corruption and wrongdoings in the Billion Tree Tsunami project confirmed the claims after visiting the forestation sites in Bannu and other areas.

Leader of Opposition in KP Assembly and committee member, Akram Khan Durrani told the media that during their visit the committee discovered that contrary to government claims of planting one billion trees - not even 100 million tress had been planted.

He further claimed that billions of rupees were embezzled in the Billion Tree Tsunami project and wondered why the accountability departments were ignoring the alleged corruption.

The committed which is made up of both opposition and government lawmakers, was formed after repeated requests and protests by KP’s opposition MPAs who insisted that an investigation be launched in the project.

However, KP Minister for Information Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, while talking to a private TV channel, refuted the committee findings.
