Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the entire leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are badly missing Lt Gen. (retired) Faiz Hameed day and night, said senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, Suharwardy said that former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa was trying to get a third extension, and making Faiz an army chief was not in his plans, adding that it was just the desire of the PTI to make Faiz army chief of the country.
The analyst said that the PTI is demanding the formation of a judicial commission to probe the revelations of disgruntled PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair regarding a meeting between Nawaz Sharif and General (retired) Bajwa. He questioned why no judicial commission was formed when PTI founder Imran Khan met Lt Gen (retired) Ahmad Shuja Pasha and Lt Gen (retired) Zaheer-ul-Islam. He questioned why a judicial commission was not formed when Faiz intervened in the 2018 general elections to facilitate the PTI.
Suharwardy said that the PTI’s politics are based on the army chief and DG ISI. The PTI leadership frequently announces publicly that they want to hold talks with the army chief, but when some other political party leader meets the army chief, it becomes an issue for the PTI, he added.
While responding to a question about the reserved seats case, the analyst said that Justice Muneeb Akhtar remarked that reserved seats should not be given to any political party. Suharwardy said that the Supreme Court has no right to reduce the number of seats in the assembly. As per the law and constitution, the ruling alliance will get the reserved seats, he added.
To another question, the analyst said that the Anti-Corruption Department of Punjab has issued notice to Sabir Mitho, a close relative of former army chief Gen. (retired) Bajwa, for alleged money laundering. He added that in the past, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) initiated an investigation against Sabir, but he was declared innocent the next day. He said that it is not yet certain whether Sabir Mitho will be held accountable or if it is a move to give him another clean chit.
