President Alvi, while speaking at the dinner reception, said the government was cognizant of the fact that Pakistan was undergoing economic difficulties. “The business community has rendered invaluable services in the development of Pakistan and we request you all for a little more patience while the government’s reform process takes root and demonstrates results,” the president added.
The Nishat Group chairman, who was leading the businessman delegation said “we acknowledge the Government’s successes in improving the security situation as it will improve the economic activities in Pakistan.” While talking Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan peace process, he said this act of government would allow enhancement of cross border trade between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia.
On the occasion, other established Lahore-based businessmen also exchanged their views with the president on the prevailing business environment.
Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Reza Baqir, former minister of Foreign Affairs Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Chairman Nestle Pakistan Syed Yawar Ali, and Director Sapphire Shahid Abdullah also attended the event.
