Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded that all political prisoners should be released.

The parliamentarian took to Twitter to express his pleasure over the release of members of National Assembly (MNA) Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir.

The PPP chairman further criticised National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser for failing to issue production orders for the MNAs.

Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, MNAs from Waziristan, were arrested in May following an alleged clash between soldiers and Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement supporters in Kharqamar. The two MNAs were alleged to have led the attack. Both were given bail by the Peshawar High Court on Saturday.

Moreover, Bilawal also put forth the demand of the release of all political prisoners.

Bilawal had earlier accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of arresting politicians to divert attention of the people from the government’s failure to handle the Kashmir issue.

The opposition has also denounced the PTI-led government’s high-handedness and continuous political victimisation of opponents.

Recently, the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz staged a protest outside the National Assembly over the arrest of PPP leader Khursheed Shah.

Bilawal did not make it clear who he was referring to when he called for the release of political prisoners. Parliamentarians currently in prison include members of both the PPP and PML-N and have been arrested in cases ranging from money laundering to drug smuggling. The lawmakers arrested by the current government in various cases include Asif Ali Zardari, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Rana Sanaullah, Miftah Ismail, Khursheed Shah.

Moreover, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz are also currently imprisoned.
