Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has made startling revelations about the internal rift within the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government which he says led to its failure on various fronts. He said that PTI leader Jahangir Tareen had gotten then finance minister Asad Umar fired from his ministry in April 2019.

Fawad Chaudhry during his interview to veteran journalist Sohail Warraich on VOA Urdu, said that the disputes between Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, and PTI senior leader Jahangir Tareen proved to be very disastrous for the party’s rule.

“These internal rifts within PTI created a giant vacuum that was filled by the politicians who are not the ideological leaders of the party. They aren’t aligned with the ideas of PTI and they don’t even have the [capability] to do so.”

The minister went on to say that Jahangir Tareen had lobbied against Asad Umar that led to his resignation for the Ministry of Finance in April 2019. He said later Asad Umar, after being appointed as federal minister again, ensured the removal of Jahangir Tareen’s influence from party politics and decision-making.
