The government has decided to monitor at least 500 social media accounts engaged in a malicious campaign against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and other judges with the intention of defaming the judiciary.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that out of the 500 social media accounts, 140 are being operated from inside the country, while the rest are being operated from outside.
He said that out of 140 social media accounts being operated from within the country, 20 to 22 are by journalists. He said that one of the journalists involved in running a campaign against the judiciary has deleted all his previous posts, whereas another has not shared any posts since the announcement of the monitoring of the accounts.
The analyst said that those who are operating accounts from outside the country can have their CNICs blocked and their properties within the country seized.
He said that those involved in running campaign against the judiciary will be treated the same way the May 9 accused are being treated.
While responding to a question regarding the Faizabad sit-in case, Suharwardy said that Lt Gen (retired) Faiz Hameed has rejected allegations leveled against him by former judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.
He said that Justice Shaukat Aziz should demand the recording of Faiz's statement under oath on the Holy Quran.
To another question, the analyst said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif’s rally in Mansehra was much bigger than Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s rally in Lahore.
He said that the PPP held a rally in Lahore with the support of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), and the students of Minhaj University filled the ground where the rally was held.
The analyst said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) held a huge rally in Karachi on Sunday after a long time, adding that it was a big ‘power show.’
