Chief Operating Officer Of Karachi Airport Contracts Coronavirus While On Duty

The chief operating officer and airport manager of Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, while performing his official duties.

Journalist Omar Quraishi posted a coronavirus update on Twitter, informing people that the government authorities have quarantined the infected airport manager along with 10 other officials of Civil Aviation Authority, Airport Security Force (ASF), and health department of the hospital.

Meanwhile, DAWN reported that 11 officials of the CAA, ASF and health department working at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport have been quarantined after the airport manager tested positive for Covid-19.

Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said, “The manager being the functional head of the airport has tested positive while performing his duties. The airport is complex machinery and close coordination is needed to ensure smooth functioning of various agencies working at the airports. The officers/officials of the CAA, besides other stakeholders, are performing their duties tirelessly to facilitate the passengers.” He said that the international flight operations were partially resumed at six airports across the country, including the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, which is the biggest airport in Pakistan.

Moreover, the department’s spokesperson Abdul Sattar Khokhar in a press release on Wednesday said that senior CAA official Zafar Aitmad had been taking care of the airport affairs after the airport manager and chief operating officer contracted the deadly coronavirus.
