The billionaire owns a clothing company known as bestseller. "We can confirm that Anders lost three children in the attack," Bestseller's communication manager Jesper Stubkier confirmed.
Stubkier, however, refrained from commenting any further and asked the media to 'respect privacy' of the Povlsen family.
According to Danish media, Povlsen and his wife Anne have four children, three of which were killed in the bombings. Danish media reported that Holch Povlsen was in Sri Lanka with his family on vacation.
Bestseller has 2,700 stores in 70 countries and reported sales of €3.3 billion ($3.7 billion) in the financial year ended 2018. The company has 17,000 employees and its brands include Vero Moda and Jack&Jones.
Povlsen's net worth is $5.7 billion, making him the 304th richest person in the world and the richest one in Denmark.
The death toll in Sri Lanka Easter Sunday blasts has increased to 290, while the number of wounded has gone up to more than 500.
Sunday's attack saw 3 luxury hotels and 3 churches attacked by 7 suicide bombers, government sources said. Thus far, no group has claimed responsibility of the attack but according to New York Times, the government has set its focus on militant group National Thowheeth Jama’ath.
Rajitha Senaratne, the Sri Lankan health minister, blamed the group at a news conference in Colombo, the capital, adding: “There was an international network without which these attacks could not have succeeded.”
