Speaking to reporters of International media in Islamabad, Fazl spoke in detail about his upcoming Azadi March but stopped short of sharing whether Azadi March is just a march, a dharna or the purpose is to lock down Islamabad.
“Let it remain ambiguous. If we reach Islamabad, we will have a different strategy and if we don't, we will consider other options. All options including en-masses resignations from assemblies and en-masse voluntary arrests are under consideration but will be used at the right time”, Maulana said in response to a question.
Let me tell you that this was not just a March, but a movement and the movement will continue till the selected government is not sent home. He said all opposition parties are in agreement on this one-point agenda.
He said that his party will confront any force that stops them from exercising their democratic rights. He also rejected reports that madrasa students will be brought to dharna. Not a single madrassa had been asked to send its students to the Azadi March, Maulana added.
The government’s main responsibilities are that it give protection of life and economic prosperity to its people, but it has failed on both fronts. It’s time to topple this de-facto government, Maulana added.
Responding to a question about talks with the government, Maulana said that talks and threats/ insults cannot go hand in hand. He reiterated his stance that he does not want confrontation with the institutions, but if his party was stopped from exercising its constitutional right then he will not shy away from confrontation.
When asked about media’s preparation for the movement, Maulana smiled and said, “Media persons should make preparations to stay in Islamabad for a month at least.”
