Senators Faisal Vawda and Irfan Siddiqui gave responses to the judiciary from the floor of the senate by delivering anti-judiciary speeches while the opposition walked out from the floor and gave them a ‘free space’, said senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy.

While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, the analyst said that Senator Vawda also presented a few pieces of evidence against the misconduct of judges during his speech in the Senate. Vawda waved a letter in which a Lahore High Court (LHC) judge demanded VIP protocol for his son at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The senator also showed a letter that was written by the LHC seeking passes for VIP boxes to watch cricket matches.

Senator Vawda questioned what action the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) took against those judges. Faisal raised valid points, and it indicates there is no concept of accountability within the judiciary, the analyst said.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan also delivered a speech to give a response to the judiciary. He said that senior Supreme Court judge Justice Athar Minallah gives examples of Abu Hanifah, but he cannot even become Rana Bhagwandas and A.R. Cornelius (former non-Muslim chief justices of Pakistan).

Suharwardy said that it seems that the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Shibli Faraz, has settled with the government and the establishment. That’s why he took all his senators and walked out of the Senate to provide free space. It was like a fixed match, he added.

While talking about the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Rauf Hassan, the analyst said that few people say Rauf verbally abused a transgender person, after which they attacked him. He said that although Rauf uses inappropriate language against state institutions, the attack cannot be justified and is still condemnable.

To another question, Suharwardy said that the government cannot oust Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi without his consent, adding that there is no truth in rumors circulating around.
