The issue was raised by the Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmad in Senate of Pakistan where he stated that whether it is a fact that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) authority ordinance lapsed and the authority is functioning without any constitutional/legal cover? What is the legal status of the administrative and financial functions / decision undertaken so far by the authority?
The questions written response submitted to the house by the Minister for planning, development and special initiative Asad Umar in which he stated that CPEC authority ordinance 2019 has lapsed on 31st May 2020 and the proposed bill for promulgation of the CPEC authority is under process in the national assembly.
On second question regarding the legal and financial status of the CPEC authority the minister responded that all administrative and financial decisions relating to the CPEC projects are being taken by the relevant ministries/ departments in accordance with the law and rules in vogue.
